Second IBM workshop!----Design thinking

    The Garage Society Starts Again: Innovation and Sustainability Thinking Methodology Workshop Event 

Successfully Held at IBM Greater China Expert Labs


With the wave of digitalisation and intelligence sweeping the world today, we were fortunate enough to visit the headquarters

of IBM once again and gain a deeper understanding of the history, culture and cutting-edge technology of the company.IBM,

or International Business Machines Corporation,has been around for more than a hundred years since its founding in 1911, 

and is one of the earliest multinational corporations in the world.


 A strong faculty consisting of Dr Wang Xiangbo, Executive Chief Principal of Wang Fu School, Dr Yuan Chang, Director Hou

Xiaojing, Ms Yang Ying, Ms Zhong Qiurui, and Ms Mou Jing led the forty members of the Garage Club, which was divided 

into four groups. Together, they participated in the workshops activity with the theme of "Innovative Thinking" jointly 

conducted with IBM Greater China Expert Lab. Unlike the first time, this seminar converted the theme content from science 

and technology to programme, and helped the development of Chinese agriculture through the learning of innovation

thinking and group discussion. This is also another in-depth contact between Garage Club of Beijing Wangfu School and 

IBM after 10th November.It is believed that in the future, through the learning and discussion of innovative thinking, there 

will be more project exchanges and cooperation between Wangfu School and IBM. And on the way to IBM, Dr Wang Xiangbo

then popularised some knowledge about IBM for us on the bus, which made us have a deeper understanding of this enterprise.

As soon as they entered IBM's building, the students were attracted by its modern architectural design and spacious and 

bright working environment as well as a strong technological atmosphere. Here, every corner is filled with the smell of 

innovation. Employees are busy and orderly working, everyone's face is full of love for technology and enthusiasm for work.

 After we took a group photo on the background wall, we came to the IBM Greater China Expert Lab under the guidance of 

IBM staff.    


First of all, Mr Wei Yongming, General Manager of IBM Greater China Expert Lab, gave a welcome speech. He mentioned 

that it is now in the stage of rapid development and wide application, and the smart agriculture project has a good 

development prospect in the future, and combines artificial intelligence and big data to explore how to use advanced 

technical means, such as cloud computing and big data analysis, through the analysis and processing of data, to extract 

practical information, which not only helps farmers to make more accurate decision-making and crop management, but 

also provides safe and nutritious products for consumers. and nutritious products. He was also very pleased to discuss 

with the students about the application of "innovative thinking" methodology.

Dr Wang delivered a speech on behalf of Wang Fu School. In his speech, it was easy to see that he had high expectations for

students of the Garage Club, especially because in order not to miss this event, Principal Wang came to the school very early 

in the morning to finish all the work. At the same time, he also expressed his wish to the students, hope that they could learn

and make good use of the innovative way of thinking through this activity, and could be inspired by it, whether in the present,

or in their future studies and careers.

In the morning, Mr Gu Bing from IBM brought the workshop activity of "Creative Thinking" to everyone. Starting from

the actual problem, the group should be clear about the problem of thinking, the construction and explanation of the

mind map, through the generation of identity, so that we can more deeply experience the idea of the person concerned. 

In this stage, each group actively discussed and spoke, and in the interaction with the teacher, the content of what they 

learnt was put into practical action.

In the afternoon, guided by IBM staff, students first visited the IBM History Museum. There are many precious artifacts 

and photos on display here, recording the glorious course of IBM's development from the original tabulator manufacturer

into a leading global technology company, important points in IBM's history and the researchers who have done great 

things for IBM's development, etc. The IBM instructor also introduced in detail IBM's significant contributions and 

innovations in many fields such as computers, software, hardware, artificial intelligence, etc., which made us deeply feel 

the company's technological strength and innovation ability. deeply feel the technical strength and innovation ability of

this company.


Several classic cases during the visit also left a deep impression on the students. The origin of "New Mayflower" and 

IBM's outlook on it, as well as a case on digital transformation, a company located in Norway, at first engaged in the

fertiliser business, but with the development of the market demand has changed, this enterprise hopes to achieve 

industrial upgrading in cooperation with IBM. After repeated discussions and design, IBM created a platform for 

them to serve farmers. One is to provide accurate weather conditions, the second is based on the actual situation of 

crop growth, to provide reasonable irrigation and other requirements, these solutions are very targeted to the 

production of farmers. According to statistics, in a year's time, irrigation savings to 20% of the previous. Through 

the actual case, IBM carried out a precise, quantifiable solutions to farmers to provide practical help. IBM solutions, 

not only the service provider, but also to establish a large platform, the upstream and downstream enterprises together, 

the use of big data analysis system, early warning, to provide solutions to avoid risk, but also to improve the efficiency 

of the work.

Through the sharing of cases during the visit, the students also had a clearer plan for the completion of the next project, 

and under the guidance of Mr. Gu, each group also began another round of heated discussions.


The first group was responsible for the marketing operation. Under the leadership of Zhang Jiayi and Yan Zihan,

they collected and sorted out the information. Through the explanation of the group members, the teachers and

other students learned about their marketing plan.

The second group, led by Liu 塽 and Li Baihan, was responsible for technical support. Their design plan was to 

provide technical assistance to each group. Through engine optimization, improve the ranking of keywords, titles,

 descriptions and other results of relevant pages to increase the exposure of the project.

Yan Ziyou, the leader of the three groups, also explained the marketing plan of the group to the 

teachers and students. They improved the promotion effect through endorsement, topic marketing

and other ways, and jointly signed with other industries to expand the sales scope.

While Zhao Mingze and Zheng Yuyue are responsible for the four groups of marketing, Chen Shilin let more people 

know the brand connotation and Ningxia vegetables through the introduction of logo design. The explanation of 

Xue Menghan and Yu Longfengyi, through social media promotion, attracted users' attention and forwarding, increased

the exposure of the project, and more highlighted the importance of the brand.

The time of the day is both precious and short, the students are still not done, the activity came to the end. 

Jiayi Zhang, founder and President of Garage, summarized the event. He says the IBM Innovation Workshop, 

Garage members and teachers put in a lot of time and effort. Here he thanked everyone for their contribution

to the event. Ms. Zhang concluded by saying that the expectations of the teachers and the innovative spirit

of IBM will always inspire everyone in Garage to keep working hard!
